Biography
Cassandra Myer is an award-winning artist from the Space Coast of Florida. She specializes in realistic portraits of birds and animals using colored pencils, and fanciful mosaics using glass and other media.
I have been in love with creating art my entire life, and have tried many mediums as one does. However, I didn’t find any medium totally engaging until I attended my first glass mosaic workshop. From the very beginning I was enraptured with the beauty and diversity of glass, and the tactile experience of creating a mosaic piece. My mosaic art tends to be “fanciful” using shaped substrates with exuberant colors and designs to create gorgeous patterns and appealing art. I use many kinds of glass in my mosaic pieces, and occasionally throw in “something else”. I experienced the same engagement when I began using colored pencils and ink to create realistic bird and animal portraits. Birds in particular fascinate me, and I have learned much about bird anatomy by creating their portraits. My colored pencil work currently is highly realistic portraits with minimal backgrounds. I love when I can capture the expression and personality of the subject, especially when they have “an attitude”.
