Space Coast Symphony Youth Orchestra presents Shall We Dance? Concert
Cocoa Beach Jr/Sr High | May 8, 2022 | 3:30pm
The Space Coast Symphony Youth Orchestra has a terpsichorean treat in store for the public, with the presentation of Shall We Dance? on Sunday, May 8, at 3:30 PM at Cocoa Beach Junior/Senior High School, 1500 Minutemen Causeway, in Cocoa Beach. Shall We Dance? includes participation by all three groups in the orchestra and will feature music from symphonic dances, folk songs and ballets. The Academy Orchestra’s beginning string players get the dancing started, when they perform “Waltz” and “Dance” from the Apollo Suite. The youngsters then tackle the rhythmic and contemporary “Wexford Circle” and the energetic “Impulse.” The intermediate players of the Symphony Orchestra get started with the lively “Dance of the Tumblers” by Rimsky-Korsakov, the waltz from Tchaikovsky’s Sleeping Beauty, plus a medley of traditional Irish folks tunes and a “Round Dance.” The audience will be primed with great music when the advanced Philharmonic Orchestra students take to the stage under the direction of Maestro Mark Nelson, performing Tchaikovsky’s lush overture to the ballet, Sleeping Beauty. The group will perform additional works from the ballets Appalachian Spring, Le CID, Estancia and The Red Poppy. The 90-minute Shall We Dance? concert is free of charge. An outreach of the Space Coast Symphony Orchestra, the youth orchestra for youth aged eight to 20 years rehearses weekly in preparation for performances of classical symphonic masterworks.
