Indialantic Chamber Singers: I Love NY! Concert
Friday, October 14, 2022 at 7:00pm and Sunday, October 16, 2022 at 3:00pm
The Big Apple takes center stage when the Indialantic Chamber Singers present two I LOVE NY concerts, showcasing the influence of New York on the American music scene. The choral ensemble will perform first on Friday, October 14 at 7:00 PM, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, 300 Malabar Road SE in Palm Bay. A second concert on Sunday, October 16 at 3:00 PM will be in the Chamber Singers’ “home” at Eastminster Presbyterian Church, 106 N. Riverside Drive in Indialantic. Both churches will include a concert of tunes somehow connected to the Empire State. The audience can expect to hear a medley from Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, which includes the popular single of the same name by Carole King. Another medley sure to please is Broadway Blockbusters, which contains songs from Fiddler on the Roof, Chorus Line, Beauty and the Beast and more. Both medleys will be accompanied by musicians on trumpet, drums and bass guitar. Other selections with a connection to New York City (and state) by their composer or arranger include “Blue Moon,” “Danny Boy” and the Shaker hymn, “Simple Gifts.” Also include on the program is an original composition by the group’s Associate Director, James Sorrell, himself a transplant from New York. Sorrell’s song for four voice parts borrows from the text of “None Other Lamb” by Victorian poet, Christina Rossetti. Artistic Director Beth Green will conduct the group for I LOVE NY. Begun in 1999, the Indialantic Chamber Singers are known for their flawless rendition of both accompanied and a cappella works, earning them the reputation as Brevard’s premier choral ensemble. I LOVE NY is free of charge, with a suggested donation of $10.
