Biography

JAN APHELIN is a representational painter, a literalist. She paints what she sees—“Things come alive—I see what I haven’t seen.” She often uses her photographs for subject references. SUBJECTS Her artwork and personality is influenced by an early love of the outdoors—all is nature.

She has dedicated the last years to building a body of work: Homage paintings and photographs with cultural symbolism, and wildlife paintings. Current events that may affect her nature may get painted. Meditation on life and death is a continuing series. Painting endangered wildlife remains a strong interest for her. EXPECTATIONS “Why do I expect people to look at my art? My intent is to give my subjects recognition, to set them before an audience for acceptance or rejection.”
