Description

Laurie Griffin grew up in Florida and worked for NASA for 35 years in various aspects of command-and-control system operations and development. For relaxation, she started studying tole painting in the early 90's and took workshops with great decorative painters but did not have time to do much painting in between. In 2011 she took a watercolor workshop and was hooked. She has taken additional workshops with many talented artists and takes local watercolor classes. Laurie has also studied clay sculpture at the Foosaner Art Museum and enjoys figure sculpting.

Her artwork captures joyful moments, whimsical images and a slightly humorous viewpoint of life. Laurie usually starts with a photograph for inspiration and tries to capture the memory, the feeling and the story. She uses watercolors, but sometimes acrylic paints, clay or a combination of clay and paints.

Since she has retired, Laurie is able to spend time painting and sculpting and learning new skills. Laurie is a member of the Florida Watercolor Society, Brevard Watercolor Society, North Brevard Art League and Central Brevard Art Association. She has displayed her work at art shows and galleries and have been recognized with several awards.
