Biography
Nancy is a fiber artist and art instructor and holds a BS in Art Education. As a past certified art teacher in both public and private schools and an experienced free-lance teacher and artist, her range includes a wide variety of techniques and art mediums. She has taught adults and children in a variety of settings. Believing that all experience becomes intricately woven into our lives, she combines a love of visual arts, nature, and basketry in her own art and teaching. Whether using art as a vehicle for change and celebration, self-expression and reflection, or healing and self-care, she encourages and guides others to find their creative voice.
As a self-taught basket weaver and teacher, Nancy produced a line of hand dyed and woven functional baskets in upstate NY, and later received a BS in Art Education. Her work has been shown at craft fairs and exhibits, including “At Home with Contemporary Crafts”, Denver Art Museum; Schenectady Museum Designer Craft Gallery, Schenectady, NY; Cambridge Artists Co-op, Cambridge, NY; Runnels Hall Exhibit, Arts Council of Tamworth, NH and in Florida. In 2019 she had work in juried invitational shows and galleries at The Studios of Cocoa Beach, The Hub on Canal, New Smyrna, and The Art Gallery of Viera. She continues to work with basketry and the visual arts, combining traditional techniques within functional, contemporary or sculptural forms. The use of indigenous gathered materials such as palm inflorescence and other mixed media are often incorporated into basketry and other artworks.
Membership is with The National Basketry Organization, Brevard Cultural Alliance, FL Tropical Weavers Guild, Ruth Funk Center for Textile Arts and North Brevard Art League. She is a current free-lance teacher working with community outreach classes and an arts wellness program to be taught this spring within a complementary care setting. Additional group and private art classes and speaking engagements can be custom designed and tailored for a unique or specific need for both the setting and/or target population.
