AnnaJo’s paintings often evoke that sense of “been there” or “done that.” She paints intimate scenes of people and places that are really quite ordinary, but comfortable in their familiarity.

Her interest in psychology and history is evident by her choice of subject matter and artistic elements employed. This multi-award winning artist primarily paints her own world of people and places with which she is familiar. Because she has lived many places throughout her life, Newman Vahle has quite a wide variety of subjects.

Newman Vahle works in many mediums, but primarily in watercolor and acrylic. Her style is realistic and often quite detailed, perhaps as a result of her experience as a drafter and technical illustrator. Local history adds depth and meaning to her work.
