Oil pastel, soft pastel, and mixed media are the preferred medium of Miami artist Sergio Torres. At his art shows people stop and wonder if the paintings are photographs. His paintings hold one’s focus to taste the experience of each brushstroke, each intentional color scheme, each detail that changes from a closeup view to a distant view. Themes range from women pondering in space, athletes excelling in their sport, nature and its awe-inspiring dimensions of form, the wonders of an endless space canvas, military in action…
The Great White Heron, 2010, oil pastels on canvas, reflects the heron’s image off a still body of water. Edge of Tranquility, 2008, oil pastels on paper, has a quaint house perched on a mountainside surrounded by a quiet, green landscape. Cosmic Cross, 2008, soft pastels on Bristol paper, depicts the tangled, enigmatic beauty of space, and Atomic Lust, 2008, soft pastel on Bristol paper, bursts into the never-ending creation in space.
