Biography

Susan Blakeslee, a life-long resident of Brevard County.

Her paintings are frequently scenes from nature – either landscapes or wildlife, and she credits her love of nature to a childhood spent on and around the Indian River. She loves painting en plein air at the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge or the Viera Wetlands, or if she can’t stop and paint, she takes photographs and paints in her studio. She also paints people, particularly “park people,” whose photos she takes while she walks in and around Cocoa Village.

A commissioned artist, Susan has painted murals in Central Brevard; Durango, Colorado; Raleigh, North Carolina; and Naples, Florida. She has attended several landscape painting workshops in Scotland, and is currently teaching watercolor privately and at Senior Adventures in Learning (SAIL) in Melbourne. Her work may be viewed at Jan’s You-Frame-It in Cocoa Village, at the Vitas Hospice office in Melbourne, and in private collections.
