Peace Like a River
he Brevard Youth Chorus presents Peace Like a River, a free concert of patriotic music and songs of peace and unity on Sunday, April 19 in Suntree. The 3:00 PM spring concert will be held at Advent Lutheran Church, 7550 N. Wickham Road, 32940. The young singers in grades 4-10 will sing songs that invoke the message of peace, along with a variety of numbers about America. The audience will hear “Let There be Peace on Earth,” “Peaceful River,” “The Water is Wide” and the Hebrew “Al Shlosha D’Varim,” along with “The Star-Spangled Banner,” “I Hear America Singing” and the patriotic “How I Love My America.” The students will perform “50 Nifty United States” by Ray Charles, as well as a fun work about the caffeinated beverage, “C-O-F-F-E-E.” Peace Like a River will be directed by Beth Green, with piano accompaniment by Amanda Avey. On several songs, the youngsters will use handheld choir chimes to accompany themselves. Membership in the nonprofit chorus is open to boys and girls in public, private, charter and home-schools. Auditions for new members will be held prior to the start of the fall semester, also at Advent Lutheran Church in Suntree. In 2027, the group will perform at the King Center with the Brevard Symphony Orchestra, in a performance of Carmina Burana.
