Flora and Fauna at the Refuge
This watercolor exhibition was requested by the Merritt Island Wildlife Association (MIWA) – a friend of the refuge organization – 23 years ago, and has been a successful partnership ever since. The show is at the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge and the subjects are flora and fauna found on the refuge and around Brevard County. It has always been our joke… NO flamingos, they’re only at the zoo. But guess what? We now have flamingos on the refuge and it seems like they’re here to stay!
The Refuge volunteers take BWS members on one or two field trips each year, so we have the opportunity to see the wildlife first-hand and to take photos. Sometimes we get surprised with an occasional animal. Space is limited, so RSVP early.
This year, we will be going to Dixie Crossroads for lunch after the tour. The Awards and Opening Reception will take place at the Visitors Center on Saturday, January 3rd, 2026 from 3:00-5:00pm. Music and light refreshments will be offered.
The refuge gift shop has invited us to put 11×14 matted prints and 4×6 greeting cards of accepted artwork in the bookstore during the show. More information and instructions will be available on the jury date.
If you have any questions about subjects, or wish to volunteer (we need you!), contact Therese Ferguson at 321-749-6962.
