Looking Over the President’s Shoulder

Looking Over the President’s Shoulder by James Still is a one man play that recounts the true story of Alonzo Fields, who took a “temporary” job at the White House and subsequently became the Chief Butler, serving Presidents Herbert Hoover, Franklin Roosevelt, Harry Truman, and Dwight Eisenhower and their families. During his twenty-one years there, he had a front row seat to history, serving such notables as Winston Churchill, Marian Anderson, Errol Flynn, as well as English royalty. Based upon his personal papers, interviews, and diaries, Fields reflects upon giving up his dream of being an opera singer to serve his country with dignity and charm.
