Biography

My art is the result of all the personal experiences I have encountered in this world. All these experiences allow me to create my expressive art. Because I'm an expressionist, everything I have seen, smelled, touched, or heard is mixed by my mind and heart then poured out onto the canvass through my soul as an expression of color, movement, shape (forms), line and textures. Therefore, my creative process is a spontaneous motion as I work very quickly filling the canvas with large shapes that cry to me to release them as the final images seem to emerge. Yes, my shapes cry to me because they are shapes wanting to be released. I prefer to paint figurative subject matters. Why? Only because I love being a human being and feel human life is very precious. I am not a portrait painter or a realistic painter because I am an expressionist who loves color and does not like to be confined to total reality.

As an expressionist, my style is sort of a whimsical or comic style that incorporates both abstract and realistic elements giving me the flexibility to play with colors, shapes, line, and textures from an actual object as I desire or conjure up in my mind. Therefore, I have no trouble painting odd or funny faces, use unusual colors for hair or skin, and other weird stuff. Because all of this depends on what I am depicting, my mood, and what the canvass is saying to me at the time I start painting.

The inspirations for my art work generally derive from images I have seen from classic Masters of old or our modern cultural heroes that have come to us through our modern way of life and technologies. Sometime, I feel I'm almost like a man with a TV controller in his hand flipping through channels never stopping just flipping. Because I thrive on change, my subject matters are constantly changing. My inspirations and thoughts change just like the fast changing technologies of our modern world. However, each of my works are inspired by and supported by some human and/or media inter-action. Life is great and Art is fun! So check out more of my art work at suziewilliams.net.
