Biography
Growing up in Florida, self-taught artist and photographer Heather Martin has always been captivated by the diversity of plant, animal, and fungal life, as well as the spectrum of environments in which they appear. Her love of the outdoors is embodied in her work, from wave paintings to sports photography.
After finishing her bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering from the University of Florida and working for a few years, Heather decided to change course and follow her passions. Some of her pieces include oil or acrylic paintings, ink on paper drawings, and a variety of photographic works. She also is working on a project to document the diversity of species in a suburban backyard planted with a combination of food-bearing and native plants.
She lives with her husband and daughter, and their dog Benji, in Melbourne, Florida. She spends her time raising her daughter, documenting species on iNaturalist, and continuing to explore and grow in her work as an artist. She can be found in the garden growing all sorts of food, or at the rock climbing gym where she is the photographer for their marketing team.
