SUMMARY:Christmas Concert
DESCRIPTION:\nThe Brevard Community Chorus, under the direction of Justin Walker, will present Johann Sebastian Bach’s Magnificat and George Frideric Handel’s Dixit Dominus on Saturday, December 13th at 7:30pm at the King Center for the Performing Arts. The chorus will be joined by members of the Brevard Symphony Orchestra and guest soloists Amy Cofield, Mary Anne Kruger, Eliza Healy, John Grau, and Jared Looper. Tickets are $34 for general admission and $29 for seniors (over 65) and active military. Tickets are available at the King Center website or at the box office on the evening of the concert.\n\n\n\nJohann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) composed his Magnificat in 1723 during his first year as cantor at St. Thomas Church in Leipzig. The work is a setting of Mary’s song of praise from the Gospel of Luke, sung by Mary upon learning she would be the mother of Jesus. George Frideric Handel (1685-1759) wrote Dixit Dominus in 1707 at age 22 during his stay in Italy. The work sets Psalm 110, a text celebrating God’s power and victory. Together, these works represent the excellence of two of the Baroque’s greatest composers.\n\n\n\n\n
