SUMMARY:When the Spirit Says Sing Concerts: Indialantic Chamber Singers
DESCRIPTION:\nYou probably know many of the songs, but you may not know they belong to the musical genre of African American “spirituals”. The Indialantic Chamber Singers will devote their next two concerts to spirituals and other “songs of glory and the promised land,” when they present When the Spirit Says Sing. The first concert will be performed on Friday, October 20, at 7:00 PM, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, 300 Malabar Road SE in Palm Bay. The 33-member singing group will repeat the performance in a second concert on Sunday, October 22, at 3:00 PM at Eastminster Presbyterian Church, located at the base of the Melbourne Causeway at 106 N. Riverside Drive in Indialantic. The program will include uplifting works as “When the Saints Go Marching In,” “Battle Hymn of the Republic,” “Deep River,” “Ezekiel Saw de Wheel,” “Zion’s Walls” and “I’m Gonna Sing When the Spirit Says Sing.” In addition, the women will sing, “The Girl with the Numbers” about Katherine Johnson of Hidden Figures movie fame. Young singers from the Brevard Youth Chorus will join the adults in several numbers, in addition to singing a canon on their own and leading the national anthem in sign language.
