PRINTS OF THE REALM
ARTIST'S STATEMENT

TO SHOW THE BEAUTY OF NATURE, FROM THE SEEM-INGLY GROTESQUE TO THE SEEMINGLY BEAUTIFUL.

TO SHOW THE BEAUTY OF HUMAN ENDEAVORS, FROM THE SIMPLEST OF INNOVA-TIONS TO THOSE MORE COM-PLICATED.

TO SHOW OUR WORLD AS SEEN THROUGH MY LENS.

"JOHN F." MEDEIROS PHOTOGRAPHER

I was born on St Michael's Island of the Portugal's Azores Archipelago in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean and emigrated to the United States at the age of three.

My young years were spent in Fall River, Massachusetts and, upon graduating high school I enlisted in the U.S. Army and made the military my career

I started taking photographs in 1959 while stationed in Korea..  That same year I was awarded a prize by the USO for a photo of a young Korean woman and her child.

Through the years I kept a photographic record of my various tours and vacations throughout the United States and, especially overseas: Korea, Japan, Turkey, Greece, Philippines, Vietnam, Azores Islands, Croatia, Portugal, and Italy,

My last assignment in the U.S. Army was at the Pentagon.  Washington, DC, and its environs offered a myriad of opportunities for good photographs.  Whether at the annual fireworks at the Mall or royal visits to the Tomb of the Unknowns, each occasion offered an opportunity to make a great picture.

Merritt Island, Florida, became my home in 1984, where my garden's blossoms were the focus of my attention.  I started perfecting taking macro shots of individual blossoms, which I call "Blossom Portraits."  Of course, Florida offers all sorts of wildlife, from alligators to beautiful birds and insects

It wasn't until June of 2007 that I was persuaded to join a diverse artists' group at the Gay, Lesbian, and Bisexual Community Center in Orlando.  Florida Queer Art Collective (QUACK) gave me the opportunity to exhibit in a number of galleries in Orlando, including recently being displayed at the Orlando Museum of Art as part of their 1st Thursdays program called "Photography:  Wet and Dry."

During January 2007, I showed 34 works of digital photography at the GLBCC/ The Center in an exhibit called "Prints of the Realm."

Display venues have been:
