Strawbridge Art League

The Strawbridge Art League, Inc. was founded over twelve years ago by a small dedicated group of artists intent on bringing to the Space Coast a limited version of the "Torpedo Factory " in Alexandria, Virginia.

This means a facility in which artists can practice their chosen field as a profession, exhibiting finished works for sale, creating their art, or both. Just as doctors, lawyers, dentists, etc., have buildings in which they cooperatively practice their profession, so too do artists seek to have the same kind of facility.

The "Doc Strawbridge" building, which is part of the Henegar Center complex and has yet to be completed, is the natural location on the third floor for such a facility. It is the intent of the Strawbridge Art League to help assist Henegar in realizing this ambition. The third floor facility would provide a central air-conditioned and heated area for studios and galleries accessible via elevator.

This would be a great improvement over other facilities currently available. As the organization grows to over 200 members, various other ambitions and goals have entered into the programming of this organization.

Regular exhibits within the walls of Henegar Center for the Arts have always been a part of the Strawbridge Art League's offerings to its members. Various exhibit opportunities have become a regular part of the programming for this organization, as have the monthly meetings that often feature demonstrations.

The organization continues to evolve as membership grows and individuals bring what talents they have to bear.
