Renee Decator - I am looking for me. I am getting there. I love paint, paper, canvas, texture, dynamic color and bold design. Art excites the senses of the viewer, hopefully, it does for me. If you create art as an _expression of what you feel, you paint what you love. That's my quote, I am happily, and hopefully capturing and sharing the things I love, colors, shapes, line, subjects I want to explore. I grew up in Daytona Beach, Florida, my family moved there from Alabama when I was eight. When I was young, the Florida landscape was still very wild and untamed. I spent my free time exploring the springs and ocean, swimming and fishing. A tomboy excited by the environment around me. My other passion was drawing. Much later in life, in the 90's I took a drawing class at the Artquest School of Art & Design in Daytona, and I was hooked. I attended classes in drawing and painting for two years at this wonderful school whose emphasis is on academics of art techniques. Instruction I have found invaluable in my art pursuits. I would have to say that my art body has a before and after. Before, being an extension of traditional techniques and a traditional approach producing photorealistic oil landscapes and portraits. After, the period I am in now, being an explosion of color, simplified shapes, striving for dynamic design. After, came after working with a great Dutch abstract artist, Frits Van Eeden and several other wonderful artists. Of course, I hear, whoa, what happened, and that is okay. I happened, am happening, that's all. I live in Indialantic Florida,. I moved here in 1996 with my husband and two sons. I have a studio near my home in Historic Downtown Melbourne, where I teach art and work. Melbourne has a large artists population that I have plugged into. I served on the board of The Strawbridge Art league, chaired the Vision Juried Exhibition, for several years and am represented in Brevard County by The Downstairs Gallery located in Downtown Melbourne.
