Linda Geiger
BIO for LINDA GEIGER
Throughout my life I have dabbled in visual, performing, literary and graphic arts, fiber arts, batik, silk painting, papier mache, and clothing design. I especially enjoy recycling, working with fabric and clay, and just recently rediscovered the joy of sketching.
Several years ago I was inspired to build dolls as a creative expression and also as a healing medium, as my mother had passed away and I found myself connecting with her spirit as I created dolls. These soft-sculptured dolls mature as I do, and every time I make one or teach a class in doll-making, I learn new techniques and my craft evolves to the next level.
Art Dolls are vessels of expression that go beyond a simple showpiece. What starts as a project, finishes as a part of the soul. It is virtually impossible to create an Art Doll without having it take charge of its own destiny, often letting its maker know what it wants to wear, how it wants to pose, and what its name will be. Each doll is truly a magical experience!
I am privileged to be one of BCA’s Resident Artists, through which I have developed my own style of art dolls I call “Character Figures.” I love teaching this to children, and helping them discover things about themselves by way of the creative process.
In an effort to minimize my human footprint on this Earth, I have expanded my discipline to making wearable art from upcycled clothing. I make purses and clothing from thrift store treasures, and I also incorporate as many rescued fabrics and embellishments as I can in my art dolls.
I am always looking for inspiration, instruction, and opportunities to grow as an artist. One of my favorite classes in college taught me that “the arts are what makes us human.” I hope to spend the rest of my life being creative and sharing the wonderful things that I learn along the way.
