The Paintings of Richard J. Ficker

With the exception of a painting class I took in High school I’m a self taught artist. I have always thought like an artist paying attention to light, shadow, shape, and form, but didn’t start painting until 2002 at the age of 49.

My paintings and subject matter vary quite a bit depending on my inspiration. I paint the surreal, sometimes from my dreams or fantasies, or landscapes and foliage inspired by my surroundings. I enjoy portraits and the human form. Water is another inspiration which appears in most of my paintings.  As a life long surfer I have always  lived around water, I just love it. Water is moving, fluid, reflective, in it’s Trans luminance. It can be every artists dream or nightmare.
