Kevin Curl

Art Specialty: Visual Art, Photography, Film/Video

My name is Kevin Curl, I recently moved here with my wife and daughters from Colorado, where we lived in the mountains between Aspen and Grand Junction. I lived in this area in the 80’s and worked mostly in Orlando and Miami, in the motion picture and still photog business.

Photography

Commercial, Fashion, Swimwear, Figure Study, Architectural.

I’ve been a pro photog for about 27 years. I’ve done a lot of figure study, fashion, swimwear and commercial work. I learned quite a bit from my dad, who was a photographer for Eastman Kodak, and still use some of his old studio lights. I received my Master Photographer Certification from the New York Institute of Photography in 1984. I’ve worked with a multitude of celebrities and countless everyday people and corporate clients.

I use to shoot only in film (as that was all that was available), I now shoot almost exclusively digital (as that is what is inexpensive). With film, you truly become an artist, everything has to be right, or the image isn’t. With digital, anyone with a digital camera can take pics, get some good ones and clean them up with the multitude of software suites available. I still refuse to photoshop my images, with the exception of zits. And I still take the time to compose my images.

Videography/Filmography

HD/SD Broadcast Quality, Webcast, Commercial, Music, Cultural, Travel.

Okay, this is where digital is really cool. As a producer and director, I’ve burnt through countless numbers of feet of 35mm and 16mm to get the shot. I was one of the first individuals/companies in the country to have a fully in house mobile video, audio recording facility. With digital, while still burning tape or using memory, the art is basically the same, the biggest difference being white balance, as opposed to metering off of gray cards. Shooting video is fun, you can re-shoot over and over, until you think you’ve got it right, then you sit down to edit, and the segment that you think is best is not always the keeper. Editing is an art unto itself, pulling together pieces of video to make a finished product takes skill and an eye for what flows and is most appealing. I don’t claim to be a great editor, but I’m a good one, having been taught by some of the best in the business. And I’m currently a contributing producer for the Travel Channel.

In closing, I’d like to offer, for a limited time, free high resolution photographic services to BCA members who may need photos of their art work for brochures or websites. I would like to thank the BCA for allowing me to become part of this unique community.

I look forward to working with many of you very soon.
