High on a hillside overlooking the Susquehana River near my home town of Port Deposit, Maryland , my love of art took over.
During my teenage years I studied under Paul Monroe, a well know artist, muralist illustrator and printmaker listed in Who's Who in American Art in his time. Here in his little art colony, I studied oil painting and posed for his classes one evening a week to pay for my lessons.
After marriage, two children, and a move to the Mojave Desert in Califormia due to my husbands employment as an engineer in the aerospace industry, I once again took up oil painting and became a member of a small Art Gallery in Lancaster, California. Serveral years later my husbands job brought us to Florida and the Kennedy Space Center. Here I studied oil with a local artist, for a few years. However, a twenty year career in nursing and another child seemed to take precedence over art until my retirement. That is when I discovered watercolor and have taken many workshops with well-known artists. Presently I am taking watercolor classes with Carole C. Wilen, a great artist and a fine teacher of art.
Currently I am a member of the Brevard Watercolor Society, the Central Brevard Art Association, Titusville Art League, and the Florida Watercolor Society. Locally I have shown my work in various places around the area and have been in several art shows. One of my paintings was selected for the Central Brevard Art Association's 2008 calendar and another for the 2009 calendar. I have paintings displayed in the Advent Luthern Church in Suntree on a continuous basis and presently with Brevard Cultural Alliance's public art program. The Florida Watercolor Society accepted one of my paintings for the Salon De Refuses section of their 2008 annual show in Delray Beach, FL. Other recent awards include an honorable mention at the Brevard Zoo Art Show 2008, a third place Ribbon at the Brevard Watercolor Wildlife Show at the Merritt Island Refuge (2008), and a first place ribbon at Carole Wilen's Student Show at the Luthern Church in Suntree in 2008. In March 2009, I received the third place award in watercolor at the Titusville Art League Spring Show.
