Biography

After FSU, Cathy moved to Detroit and worked as a commercial artist for eight years before she decided to move back to Florida and teach. She did not find a teaching position right away, so she continued to work as a freelance artist, raise her daughter and work on her art. It was during this time that she began working with clay as if it were a printmaking process. She often worked in series and signed the pots as if they were an edition. Eventually she developed a method of large scale clay paintings. The painting on clay brought Cathy back to oil painting where she started many years ago.

"I am influenced by many of the Impressionist era artists (like Seurat), yet I also have a huge appreciation for the printmakers of the 1960’s and 70’s such as Rauschenberg, Johns and Dine. To confine myself to one way of looking at the world seems so limiting."

BFA 1976 Florida State University (major-printmaking)
