Description

As a young girl, I remember my Grandfather taking me on an “adventure” every Saturday. He referred to these outings as an adventure; my understanding of the word was completely different than his. Complaining about bug bites and sometimes the occasional bout of Poison Ivy, he would smile and say these were all temporary ailments and someday I would understand. He armed me not with bug spray, but with an old Brownie camera. For many years I eagerly anticipated each Saturday's exploration of a new stand of trees in the woods or a mountain stream where we would fill empty soda bottles with cool sparkling water while I photographed everything in sight. Little did I know the impact those Saturday outings, frame by frame, would have on my life.

As a young adult he bought me a Ricoh 35mm camera that finally just wore out. Life, education, family, and work consumed a lot of my time so, photography was put on hold. Four years ago we retired and moved to North Carolina. Having been involved with rescue my entire adult life, I decided to focus on my love of animals and nature. My husband bought me a Nikon for my birthday and I haven’t stopped shooting!

For the past four years I’ve photographed shelter dogs and worked alongside others with holiday shoots for pets and their owners to raise much needed money for rescue, North Carolina is a beautiful state so I also enjoyed the glorious mountains and sharing the exquisite beauty of it through my work in photography. In April we moved to Florida and are truly enjoying all the wonders of nature. We are each an intricate part of the 3-D photo that nature has decided to share with us. As I wander through it and marvel at the vastness and design, I am both humbled and in awe of the delicate balance. My hope is that through my photography you will be inspired to take a moment and experience firsthand the beauty that surrounds our daily lives.
