Biography

ART TO GO WITH THE DECOR This is how Dorothy Rhines started painting on canvas for her customers. Rhines' career as an Interior Designer made it possible for her to advance in the arts. She took classes with well known artists to further her career in the art world. Her style is American Impressionistic with a painterly twist. Rhines can have ideas in the back of her mind for a long time, mulling it over before committing it to paper or canvas.

Rhines loves variety; she likes to work in every medium possible and paint whatever subjects interest her. Rhines doesn't believe this necessarily makes her a jack of all trades and master of none; for she finds tackling a breath of ideas keeps her work fresh and moving forward and a knowledge of one medium invariably helps progression in another. She keeps going back to oil. It is a medium that has a forgiving nature, says Rhines.

Her favorite artists are Sorolla and Nicolai Fechin. In 2005 Rhines was able to see the studio and home of Nicholai Fechin, in Taos, New Mexico, that he designed and built and had the opportunity to view some of his original paintings. Rhines and husband Bob are originally from Peoria, Illinois, and relocated to Satellite Beach 11 years ago to be close to their family. The old saying goes “If it will play in Peoria, it will play anywhere”.
