Biography
Weaving became an obsession in 1980, when an artist friend taught me to make a simple melon basket. I consumed basketry books and materials, spending every waking hour weaving baskets. Having been a pianist since the age of five, I never imagined I could create visual forms. I love being able to create something in my mind and transfer it to a physical thing. Sound lasts only an instant and then is gone except for the memory of the performance. My baskets, sculptures and paintings are still here tomorrow and next week and next year. I still think of myself as a musician and creator of sound. Music seeps into my work as timbre, tone color, balance, form and dynamics. I am proud of my craftsmanship — 40 years of Hanon and Czerny have served me well!
In 1999 I took my first jewelry class. It is such fun creating custom jewelry, sorting beautiful stones until the right combinations emerge. It is delightful and fulfilling to design a custom piece with a client – jewelry she can wear knowing she was part of the creative process. It is equally delightful to redesign a family heirloom or antique piece of jewelry with the owner. These “partnered” pieces always turn out great!
