Biography

Biography I spent 35 years as a teacher in Brevard County, Florida, but I am a North Carolina native. Therefore, my oil paintings reflect both my present environment (swamps and palms) and my past – a wonderful childhood growing up on a tobacco farm in a rural area north of Henderson. Many of my recent landscape paintings are attempts to preserve what is rapidly disappearing: old buildings, barns, cotton fields, and a different way of life. About eight or nine years ago, I began studying oil painting with John Slater (now deceased); later, I took classes with Terry T. Norris. I also engaged in watercolor classes with Diane Cannon, and then I switched to painting oils with a palette knife under the tutelage of master artist Robert LeBron. Most recently, I studied portrait painting with Dennis Childs. Nothing is as exciting to me as starting a new painting - regardless of which medium I am using.

All in all, my art is the culmination of my love of life and my desire to create. Painting is a passion for me, and my art reflects the inner peacefulness I feel. That serenity is what I wish to share with others.
