Art of Sand Festival

The Art of Sand Festival and Exhibition promises to be the largest art and cultural event in Brevard County and will take place from April 2 to May 2, 2010 in Cape Canaveral. This month-long exhibition will give visitors an opportunity to view 10 to 12 foot sculptures created by Master Sand Sculptors from around the world. The Space Coast Open will be an International level competition and feature Master and Professional sculptors in an open competition; youth and corporate teams are also part of the competition and exhibition. Visit www.ArtofSandUS.com for more details and exciting information!

The 3-day festival on opening weekend, April 2-4, will have an awards ceremony, VIP party, entertainment, vendors, food, and a chance to see the sculptures all for one low admission price of $8.00 adult and $4.00 for seniors, military personnel and children under 12 years.

For the four weeks of the Art of Sand event there will be tours of the sculptures, merchandise and special events that will provide opportunities for cross promotions with our area’s arts and cultural venues and our area’s tourism industry including the Port, Melbourne International Airport, hotels, Chambers and the Space Coast Office of Tourism. There will also be a Youth Pavilion during the entire event. Youth will have the opportunity to experiment with their own sand sculptures, learn fun facts about sand and the environment and have some hands-on fun at the Art of Sand event. This event will introduce and elevate a new art form to the Space Coast, sand sculpting, while promoting arts and culture in Brevard. Sand sculpting consultant, Jill Harris of Sandsational, is renowned internationally and represented the United States in sand sculpting competitions throughout Europe and Asia. She has been featured on the television show, “Sand Blasters,” and has won numerous awards. The ephemeral works of art created by Jill and her international colleagues must be seen in person to be truly appreciated; not only for their great detail but also their scale.

The successful presentation of the Art of Sand event will further BCA’s long-range strategic goal of building self-sustainability. Funds raised from this event will support The Fund for Arts in Brevard (FAB).

Getting to the Space Coast is easy – Orlando International Airport is 45 minutes away and major thoroughfares include S.R. 528 (the Beachline), I-95, A1A, and U.S. 1.
