Dan Downey
Dan was born in Norwalk, Connecticut, and was raised there and in Westport, Connecticut. He is the youngest of four brothers. His mother and father, both very creative individuals, met in New York City at the New York Phoenix School of Design. Dan’s father was a freelance graphic artist with his studio in their home. At an early age, Dan learned to use all the tools found there.
From the time Dan was in diapers, there was always a sailboat in the family. His summers were spent swimming and cruising about Long Island Sound. When he reached high school age, his parents headed south on their 47-foot sailboat and settled in Miami. Dan graduated from Coral Gables high School, attended Miami Dade Community College, and eventually became a freelance graphics artist himself. He also attended the New Hampshire Institute of Technology.
Over the years, Dan has spent nearly a decade living and working aboard various vessels cruising the Atlantic Seaboard, the Bahamas, and the Great Lakes, while still finding time to indulge his artistic talents.
Dan is a very diverse artist whose talents range from commercial graphics to varying styles of fine art.
