The SPACE COAST WEAVERS AND FIBER ARTISTS GUILD welcomes all those who already participate in the fiber related arts, or who have the desire to learn (men and women alike)! The purpose of the guild is to promote awareness of the fiber arts and to help each person perfect their craft.
Please join us as a guest during one of our regularly scheduled meetings. We meet monthly, the fourth Saturday of the month, at 9:30 am in the auditorium of the Merritt Island Public Library, on N. Courtenay Parkway across from Merritt Island High School. Our meetings begin with a showing and sharing of member works, followed by a business and planning meeting. Either a brief program or a more in depth mini-workshop is offered at the conclusion of each guild meeting. Guests are welcome to stay for any of the free educational programs. Workshops may require advance sign up and space preference is given to members first, however the general public is invited to attend any monthly workshop provided there is space available. Membership dues are only $15 annually.
The Guild held its first organizational meeting at the Titusville Library on August 23, 1983, under the name of Indian River Weavers Guild. In 1997 the name was changed to The Space Coast Weavers and Fiber Guild to reflect a more accurate representation of members located in the central Brevard County region. The guild represents a wide array of interests and activities in the fiber arts and complementary art forms such as:
Spinning, Dying and Weaving
Jewelry Making and Beading
Knitting, Crocheting and Quilting
Basketry and Paper Making
Tatting and Bobbin Lacing
Rug Hooking and Felting
Many of our members demonstrate, exhibit, and teach their art form in addition to being active in the guild, and participate at the local, state, and national level. We are members of the Florida Tropical Weavers Guild, Inc. as well as The Handweavers Guild of America, Inc. You may have seen us demonstrating at the Brevard County Fair, local libraries and bookstores, or our exhibits in the Harris Gallery at The King Center and Brevard Community Colleges BCC-UCF Joint Use Library in Cocoa. Our members are excited about sharing their knowledge and love of the fiber arts with the community!
Each September our guild participates in the "Fall for the Arts" with BCA in the heart of Eau Gallie Arts District. Meet us there.
Members of the Space Coast Weavers and Fiber Artists Guild (SCW&FA) demonstrate their crafts throughout Brevard County. Look for us in libraries, schools, or festivals, especially during national "Spinning and Weaving Week" the first week of October.
