Art of Sustainability 2017

Sculptors are invited to submit kinetic sculptures for consideration for display as part of the Art of Sustainability, March 25 – April 23, 2017. This exhibition will present kinetic sculptures on the grounds of Palm Bay City Hall, Florida.

Images of Submitted Work:  A maximum of 3 existing works may be submitted for consideration; submit images electronically to lynne.brezina@artsbrevard.org. Minimum height of sculpture to be considered is 6 feet.

HONORARIA

Each artist whose work is selected for display at Palm Bay City Hall will receive a $500 honorarium to assist with transportation and miscellaneous expenses. Honoraria checks will be presented to the artist at the time of installation. A W-9 form must be completed by the artist before payment can be made.

APPLICATION CRITERIA

Works not following the criteria will not be considered for installation. Artists unable to meet the scheduled installation requirements are not eligible for participation.

  1. The applicant must be at least 18 years of age. Applications must include a resume demonstrating outdoor kinetic sculpture experience.
  2. All entries must be completed and received for consideration by March 7, 2017.
  3. Application requires images for consideration; maximum of 3. Submissions must include title, dimensions, date completed, and medium/materials.
  4. The selected works are to be exhibited at Palm Bay City Hall from March 25, 2017 through April 23, 2017. Sculptures must be loaned for the duration of the exhibition and may not be removed until the conclusion of the exhibition.
  5. Work must be suitable for outdoor installation as follows:
  • The piece must be capable of being secured to a concrete pad with anchor bolts (provided by organizer). Recommended bolt hole size is 5/8”.
  • Capable of withstanding adverse weather conditions (high winds, high temperatures, heavy rains, storms, etc.) All parts and components of the sculpture must be structurally sound and durable.
  • Fabricated and finished with non-hazardous materials.
  • Maintenance-free for the duration of the exhibition.
  • Appropriate for an active pedestrian environment and consideration to the safety of pedestrians.
  1. Installation and de-installation:
  • Installation must take place the week of March 20, 2017. Siting of selected work will be at the discretion of event organizers.
  • The artist will be responsible for the delivery of the work to and from Palm Bay, Florida and for supervising the installation of the sculpture.
  • Art of Sustainability will supply standard equipment and volunteers as needed for installation. The City of Palm Bay will assist in the installation and de-installation processes.
  • Participating sculptors will be invited to attend an opening reception for the Art of Sustainability.
  • Artists will be responsible for the de-installation and removal of all sculptures the week of April 24, 2017.
  1. LIABILITY: Insurance coverage for the loaned artwork is the responsibility of the artist. Participating artists will be required to sign a release of liability. Neither the City nor Brevard Cultural Alliance will be held responsible for property damage due to poor construction.
  2. Art of Sustainability, Brevard Cultural Alliance and the City of Palm Bay reserve the right to photograph any sculpture and/or the artist for documentation, education and publicity purposes without additional compensation.
  3. All sculptures that are sold as a result of the Art of Sustainability 2017 or during the duration of the exhibition will pay a 20% commission earmarked for Brevard’s Art in Public Places program.
  4. Participation in the submittal process constitutes a full understanding and acceptance of the conditions set forth above. All decisions regarding work selected for exhibition are final.

Notification of Acceptance on or before: March 10, 2017

Install accepted sculptures: Week of March 20, 2017

De-installation of sculptures: Week of April 24, 2017
